About Me

About Me

I’m a science writer and editor, and part-time rock climber, based in the Pacific Northwest. For years, since before I got my start as a staff writer at Discover magazine, I’ve been fascinated by the natural world, and by the capacity of human ingenuity to reveal it to us. For almost a decade, I’ve been exploring that world in writing, from Maya temples deep in the Guatemalan jungle to particle accelerators buried under the Earth.

Some of my favorite stories have given me a chance to use a single place or idea to illuminate the far larger networks of meaning and interdependence that tie the planet, and us, together. That’s included visiting the Oregon Dunes that inspired Frank Herbert, and learning about what’s become of them since, and profiling the scientists hunting for evidence of long-ago paleotsunamis. And, of course, quantum echidnas.

I'm also a founding partner at Lunaris Creative, a digital content agency for science brands and organizations. You can learn more about that work over at our website.

I’m usually available for assignments, and I’d love to write for you. Reach out with questions or ideas!
